From Kotaku:
Today, THQ was officially sold and auctioned off. Within the next few weeks, the company will be no more.
The company’s assets have been divided, pending final court approval: Sega agreed to purchase Relic (Company of Heroes), Koch Media has agreed to purchase Volition (Saint’s Row) and the Metro property, Crytek has agreed to buy Homefront, Take-Two will purchase the unannounced game Evolve, and Ubisoft will buy THQ Montreal and the South Park game.
It’s always a shame when a game company with such a long history goes down. I had a friend or two that worked there, but in honesty I’m not surprised.
I’m trying to recall for the life of me the last time I enjoyed a THQ game and I’m drawing a blank. Maybe in the n64 era?
I know I definitely worked on a couple, but they were really shitty titles.
I’m not getting into the Saints Row debate again, I hated it.
The only thing I really mourn is when they shut down Kaos, it was one of the very few full on game studios in NYC. Something this city is severely lacking.
